When Mélissa Marques’ boyfriend was selected for the Work-Travel Program (PVT) from France to Quebec, he was given the opportunity to live in Quebec for 2 years. Mélissa realized that she needed to find herself a job in Quebec to be able to join him on his journey. As a result, she discovered the Journées Quebec à Paris, an organization that connects Quebecois Employers and French candidates with the aim of recruiting new talent.
After having responded to different job postings, Mélissa was invited for an interview by Premier Tech for the Journées Quebec à Paris. It was there that she had the opportunity to meet Premier Tech’s Talent Hunters. “It wasn’t at all what I was expecting. I really thought I would be asked the typical interview questions, but not at all. It was more like an interview to see my state of mind, why I wanted to go to Quebec, if I was really ready to move here and to live here, and if the cold scared me… I was surprised, but in the end it was enjoyable!” Mélissa recalled.
Finally, in January 2017 Mélissa was given the happy news! She had been hired by Premier Tech to work in accounting, and she would be moving to Rivière-du-Loup, Québec! She still had a few more months to wait while her paperwork went through. During this period she was offered a job in France at Premier Tech Aqua, where she began to immerse herself in the Premier Tech’s. On July 27, her dream became a reality; she experienced her first day as part of the PT team in Rivière-du-Loup. “It was Premier Tech who chose my destination, and I have no regrets. It has met all my needs” exclaimed Mélissa, who had always wanted to experience other cultures and lifestyles. “It was, in some ways, the chance of a lifetime!”
What does Mélissa appreciate the most about her newly adopted city? “The proximity to nature and the view of the river is just magnificent! It’s a medium sized city, but it remains very friendly. People you don’t know greet you, and talk with you, and that is something you don’t really see in larger cities. The quality of life is perfect!” She affirmed, already won over.
Not only is she happier in her personal life, but her job at Premier Tech seems to fit in all respects. “Nowadays at work I feel more serene. There is a balance between my personal life and professional life that is pleasant and respected, and I am really thriving at work! There is a state of mind that is very open, and the way the team members are valued seems different than in other companies. It is very stimulating. When we excel at what we do, we feel validated and rewarded” she explained.
When your biggest challenge is just to understand the Quebecois expressions, there is really no reason not to go for it. For those of you who hesitate to take the plunge, Mélissa has one piece of advice for you: “Don’t be afraid! While yes it is far, like the other side of the world- or the other side of the Atlantic, so many good things are waiting for us if we don’t question it and just go for it! Look how happy I am!
